in the christianity of the west, epiphany marks the anniversary of the visit of the three magi to the infant jesus. however, its secular definition as "the sudden realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something." may mean more to us, as our winter holidays now drift into memory and 2012 becomes a year in which we live, still human, rather than just the repository of our best intentions and hopes for the future. then again, i'm not one to turn away regal strangers bearing gifts and frankly, while frankincense & myrrh are always nice to have around the house, that chest full of gold would come in mighty handy just about now.
